Heavy Quark Potentials in Quenched QCD at High Temperature
نویسندگان
چکیده
Heavy quark potentials are investigated at high temperatures. The temperature range covered by the analysis extends from T values just below the deconfinement temperature up to about 4Tc in the deconfined phase. We simulated the pure gauge sector of QCD on lattices with temporal extents of 4, 6 and 8 with spatial volumes of 32. On the smallest lattice a tree level improved action was employed while in the other two cases the standard Wilson action was used. Below Tc we find a temperature dependent logarithmic term contributing to the confinement potential and observe a string tension which decreases with rising temperature but retains a finite value at the deconfinement transition. Above Tc the potential is Debye-screened, however simple perturbative predictions do not apply. PACS-Indices : 5.70.Ce 12.38.Gc 12.39.Pn

Static quark anti-quark free energy and the running coupling at finite temperature
We analyze the free energy of a static quark anti-quark pair in quenched QCD at short and large distances. From this we deduce running couplings, g(r, T ), and determine the length scale that separates at high temperature the short distance perturbative regime from the large distance nonperturbative regime in the QCD plasma phase. Ambiguities in the definition of a coupling beyond the perturbat...
متن کاملLong-distance behavior of qq̄ color dependent potentials at finite temperature
SU(3) heavy quark potentials at finite temperature are studied by quenched lattice QCD with the stochastic gauge-fixing method. In addition to the standard color average channel, we investigate qq̄ potentials in singlet and octet channels. The singlet qq̄ channel yields an attractive force, while the octet qq̄ potential is repulsive; the corresponding color average channel also results in the attr...
متن کاملSequential Charmonium Dissociation
Finite temperature lattice QCD indicates that the charmonium ground state J/ψ can survive in a quark-gluon plasma up to 1.5 T c or more, while the excited states χ c and ψ ′ are dissociated just above T c. We assume that the χ c suffers the same form of suppression as that observed for the ψ ′ in SPS experiments, and that the directly produced J/ψ is unaffected at presently available energy den...
متن کاملThe quenched limit of lattice QCD at non - zero baryon number
We discuss the thermodynamics of gluons in the background of static quark sources. In order to do so we formulate the quenched limit of QCD at non-zero baryon number. A first numerical analysis of this system shows that it undergoes a smooth deconfining transition. We find evidence for a region of coexisting phases that becomes broader with increasing baryon number density. Although the action ...
متن کاملCharmonium near the deconfining transition on the lattice
Investigation of the QCD phase transition at finite temperature and density is one of most important subjects in particle and nuclear physics. To create the quark gluon plasma phase (QGP), in which quarks and gluons are deconfined and the chiral symmetry is restored, the high energy heavy ion collision experiments have been performed and the RHIC experiment at BNL is in progress. The J/ψ suppre...
